The therapeutic value of CBD is already reasonably well known. It has been proven that CBD oil is an effective painkiller, sleep aid and general anti-inflammatory. The same properties that lead to improved health also make CBD a very good choice for athletes! Its ability to reduce stress can prevent burn-out. As a sleep aid, CBD can improve recovery times. Even the mechanism behind cannabidiol’s ability to reduce anxiety can lead to athletic benefits. Athletes are on the move all day long and are conscious of their bodies day in and day out. This has both positive and negative consequences. Because of the many hours of training, so-called “training stress” is created. Training stress improves the body’s adaptability and performance. On the other, more negative side, this much training leads to wear and tear of the muscles and/or bones, which in turn leads to injuries and pain. Current methods of pain treatment are effective, but not always safe. The demand for CBD oil for athletes is growing. More and more athletes and coaches are looking for improved sports recovery and safer pain relief, CBD oil can provide the solution.
Can all athletes use CBD oil?
CBD has many of the same potential benefits as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), but without the psychoactive effects. Although research on CBD oil is limited, it seems promising in the treatment of a number of conditions that many athletes face. Examples include joint pain, inflammation and muscle pain. Before 2018 CBD was on the list of banned substances for professional athletes. This means that only amateur athletes were allowed to use CBD oil to increase their competition and training performance. In early 2018, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) removed CBD from the list of banned substances – in or out of competition. The American Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) did the same. There is an important caveat: only CBD oil has been removed from the banned list. The psychoactive component of marijuana, THC, is still banned in competition, as are synthetic cannabinoids. Who went before you? Given the effects of CBD oil, it’s not surprising that many professional athletes use it. Caleb Marshall is a coach, dancer and fitness instructor. He uses CBD to minimize muscle pain and extreme fatigue. According to Caleb, regular use of CBD provides a certain peace of mind. Nate Diaz is a professional MMA fighter. He believes that CBD maintains a healthy balance and supports your body in dealing with the after-effects of fighting and training. James Haskell is a former rugby international. He is known for his impressive physique and dedicated attitude towards training and fitness. He also uses CBD regularly.
The side effects of CBD oil
CBD oil reduces stress (it is an adaptogenic substance), protects the central nervous system, improves sleep, promotes muscle relaxation and reduces anxiety, oxidation and inflammation. Although the benefits are very attractive, there are unfortunately also possible risks. As with many other drugs, CBD also has potential side effects. Below is a list of the most common side effects:
- appetite changes
- weight fluctuations
- Although these are the most common side effects, this does not mean that the side effects are actually common. There are people who have experienced the side effects, but so far the numbers are very small!
